Geddes
Roo Geddes was born into an extraordinarily musical family and continued the tradition when he started learning fiddle, aged seven. His early immersion in classical music lead him to playing in orchestras and it was through his connections in Glasgow Schools’ Symphony Orchestra that he met Julen Santamaria. They started playing together in Julen’s first band ‘Angus and the Whine Bottles’. After the Whine Bottles disbanded in the summer of 2016, he continued to play with Julen in the newly formed ‘Awkward Family Portraits’.
Roo is currently in his final year of the BMus classical violin degree at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. He is still involved in a diverse range of other musical projects and outlets externally of his course. He is inspired by the eclecticism of the Scottish music scene and performs with various ensembles stretching from Folk to Gypsy-Jazz. The culmination of his unique combination of experiences across so many different musical styles has catalysed his development as a composer and his works have been performed extensively by groups including the National Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music and the Scottish Ensemble.
Roo’s passion for music is continued in teaching where he works with pupils on fiddle, violin, piano, theory and composition; in groups or individually at every level from beginner to professional as well as at events for festivals.
In amidst his other projects, AFP continue to be a very special group to Roo and their journey continues to excite and inspire him!
